The first few weeks of 4K have gone by quickly. The children have been busy getting to know each other and have been learning the school routines. They really enjoyed "reading" a recipe chart to make silly putty and had lots of fun playing with it! They also did a great job cutting their fruit for "Friendship Fruit Salad" and it tasted great! Thanks for your fruit donations. Don't miss "Our 4K Family Tree" which will be displayed in the hallway soon! Meet all of our wonderful 4K families!
Our Unit Themes the next few weeks will be:
Our Fabulous Families!
Fantastic Fall
Fire Safety
Awesome Apples
Halloween Happenings

Pre-K Program Goals

- To promote the development of a positive self-concept in each child and help him/her feel safe, secure and happy at school.
- To provide an environment/atmosphere that promotes/teaches cooperation, sharing, working with others, manners and positive social interactions.
- To help the children develop receptive and oral language skills.
- To help the children develop fine and gross motor skills.
- To provide many opportunities for creative expression through art and music experiences.
- To introduce simple math skills such as: counting, numeral recognition, shape recognition and sorting.
- To promote awareness of print through reading stories, pointing out letters, name recognition activities and encouraging printing name when ready.
- To help the children learn about themselves and the world around them by bringing in many real objects/hands on experiences (cooking, experiments, plants), inviting speakers to our classroom and going on field trips.
- To nurture the faith development of the children through bible stories, prayer time, short prayer sessions in church, songs and daily reminders to listen to God's word.
- To promote the development of self-help/independence skills by encouraging the children to take care of their own belongings, help clean-up our classroom, clear their place at snack table, hand washing/bathroom on own and putting their own outdoor clothing on.
Helpful Hints for Home
- Talk with your child about what he/she did at school after each session.
- Provide many opportunities for your child to cut, color and write.
- Help your child hold the scissors or pencil correctly.
- Encourage your child to practice printing his/her name with the first letter capital and the others lower case.
- Promote independence/self-help skills such as: dressing, picking up toys, bathroom/hand washing, using sentences to ask for things, praying and table manners
- Encourage/require following through on verbal directions/requests you give.
- Read to your child daily. Enjoy the story together. Let your child join in repetitive parts, ask him/her questions about the story and make predictions together. Have fun with reading!
